Learning to Walk With the King

I have been faithfully reading the blog Women Living Well for over a year now. Courtney
did a blog post about taking applications for a book launch team. So I sent in an email saying that I was interested and filled out the little questionnaire. Never in a million years did I expect to be accepted for the launch team!
I squealed and I'm pretty sure called or text my family and friends to share my news!
And then I panicked. What in the world did I get myself into?! Me? Write a book review?
But God knew what he was doing...

This book has blessed my socks off.  I feel as though Courtney wrote this book just for me.  I will admit some of this was hard to read. Stuff that I knew I needed to change but was maybe in denial about.  It's easy to think that we are perfect the way we are.  No one is close to perfect, but we can sure do our best to strive for perfection!

A few things that have really stuck with me are how important it is to create quiet and calm moments alone with God.  Not just to sit and read His word with a cup of coffee but to let it sink in. Deep.  Taking the time to pray throughout the day. Pray for our loved ones.

Jesus answered, "Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again,
but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst.
 Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life."
 {John 4:13-14}

I loved the part on marriage.  We often put our kids before our husbands.  And we should put our husbands second ONLY to God!  We were created to be our spouses helper, his partner. Genesis 2:18 says, "It is not good that the man should be alone;  I will make him a helper fit for him." That helper is the wife.  We complete our husbands.  We are to let them lead our home and our family.  We are to show our husband respect and be mature enough to admit our faults and apologize when we are wrong.

The parenting part was actually hard to read.  In a good way.  It was what I needed.  I'm not the perfect mom by all means.  I fuss, yell, and have a short fuse from time to time. Did you know that the influence of a mother comes from the voice we speak in our home?  Yep, we set the mood all right.  Our influence is huge.  Little eyes are ALWAYS watching.  We as mothers need to model for our children our love for the Lord and our passion for Him.  The biggest thing for me is to learn to let my struggles mature me.

"Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials
of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith
produces perseverance.  Let perseverance finish its work so
that you may be mature and complete and not lacking anything."
{James 1:2-4}

The part of homemaking was wonderful.  Courtney talks about how to pursue the Proverbs 31 woman.  How to use our home, our cleaning, and our cooking as ways to show our love to our families.  It's so easy to get frustrated and bored in our everyday mundane tasks.  We may not get praised for having the floors swept and moped but these things don't go unnoticed.  Always do your work for the Lord, change your perspective, and find inspiration.

"She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness."
{Proverbs 31:27}

I would love to win this book and use it as a conversational tool for a group in our area called MUMS ~ Mother's Uplifting Mothers. I am one of the leaders to this group of amazing christian women who have come together to support each other in this day and age where it is easy to judge and be judged.
